80 Years of Batman

Tuesday, June 18, 2019, until Monday, September 30, 2019

Batman is a legend and among the most popular comic book characters in the world. In May 1939, 22-year-old Bob Kane published the first adventure of the dark knight in the comic book series Detective Comics Nr 27. This marked the beginning of a great success. Many fans have been drawn to the dark adventures in print and, since 1943, even on screen. The Batman comics unite the greatest heroes of popular culture, such as Zorro, Sherlock Holmes, Bruce Lee or James Bond though Batman always remains the most realistic super hero. Among his villains are many famous characters such the Joker, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy.

The exhibition at the Amerikahaus shows an overview of comic artists’ work over the last 80 years and allows the visitor to dive into the world of Gotham City. The show includes original drawings from Bob Kane, Neal Adams, Jim Aparo, Frank Miller, Jim Lee, Greg Capullo, Eduardo Risso, Alex Ross, Tim Sale, and many more
