Digital Research Center

We offer students and general Amerikahaus guests three free, digital services. This is a great option for those who cannot easily visit us in person. You can research digitally in our databases and receive personalized assistance with your research, citation, and writing needs.

For all students who want to research digitally with Amerikahaus

30- to 60-minute appointments, requested via e-mail.
How does online research work? Via Zoom or Google Meet using screensharing, you will communicate your research search terms, and we will type them in. You will follow along on the screen and tell us which articles you would like us to click on. Information you would like to use from these sources will be made available to you after the appointment as long as this is allowed under copyright law. This can only be determined on an individual basis.

What information do I need to include in my request e-mail?
1. List your topic and two databases you would like to research in.
2. List 3 possible appointment dates and times (30-60 minutes per appointment)
Appointments can be made for any time between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. You will need a stable internet connection and a microphone or other alternative to communicate during the appointment.
3. Important! Your e-mail request must include the following text:

"My research is only for personal reasons and will not be used in a commercial way, nor will it be used for commercial gain. I will abide by all copyright laws with all materials found during this research session and will properly cite the information obtained from this research session."

Please submit your e-mail request to bibliothek@amerikahaus.de. We look forward to hearing from you!

Online support for student research, W- and P-Seminars via Web-Chat

We are the first point of contact in Munich for the gymnasiale Oberstufe when it comes to writing research papers about the USA and Canada. Younger students can also find assistance for their research projects about American topics with us!

Simply contact us via e-mail, chat, or online audio call to discuss topics like research, formal writing, citations/bibliographies and to ask any other questions you might have concerning your W- and P-Seminar projects.

For complicated questions, we recommend our Webcall consultations. These allow a quick back-and-forth about your topics and allow for detailed solutions. Via screensharing, your questions can be visually supported and answered.

Set up an appointment
Send us an e-mail to bibliothek@amerikahaus.de to schedule your appointment. We will reserve 30-60 minutes for your online consultation—free of charge. We welcome you to write down your initial questions in your request e-mail so that we can better prepare ourselves. On workdays you will most likely receive a response within 24 hours. We look forward to you request!

Due to the extraordinary circumstances the Coronavirus pandemic has created, we are able to provide you with a temporary guest login for some of our databases and online periodicals. This service is made possible by the U.S. Embassy in Berlin and the U.S. State Department. This offer is not only for students, but also for those visitors who have missed our print magazines during their in-person visits.

The guest login is free to use and easy to apply for. Send us an e-mail to bibliothek@amerikahaus.de with your request, and be sure to include the following text:

"Hiermit bestätige ich, dass ich die Anmeldedaten zur Datenbank nicht weitergebe und mit den Inhalten der Datenbank rechtmäßig umgehen werde. Das heißt, dass ich den rechtmäßigen Umgang mit Quellen in der Datenbank zur Kenntnis nehmen und einhalten werde."

We look forward to hearing from you.
