Lost Human Potential: What to do About People's Confidence in Their Military and Perceptions of Safety Where They Live?

Saturday, February 17, 2024, 5:30 p.m. (CET)

Current conflicts around the globe threaten the safety and security of millions. From Ukraine to Venezuela, Israel and Palestine, Gallup research sheds light on what people around the world think and feel about their country’s military, perceptions of safety where they live and the issues driving mass migration and resulting security problems. These perceptions illustrate lost human potential and a major part of the human development challenge in too many countries. As decision-makers and key experts look at how to best manage change and the way forward, this session seeks to bring the “voice” of the people to the table and stimulate solutions for the broader common good. These insights, presented using live data visualizations and an augmented reality experience, will inspire facilitated open dialogue to help attendees uncover the questions they should be seeking answers to in their local jurisdictions to overcome their most prominent security challenges. To further inspire action, case studies of success will be discussed.

Panelists:
Ambassador Juan Carlos Pinzón, Ambassador of Colombia to the United States and former Minister of Defence of Colombia
Ilana Ron-Levey, Managing Director Gallup, Washington, D.C. and Social Science Researcher and Consultant
