In November 2020, the most controversial president in recent memory will face his most crucial test yet: re-election. Donald Trump set out in 2016 to “drain the swamp” and fundamentally change the way American politics works. How much of his right-wing populist agenda did he manage to translate into actual policy and legislation? How did he shape America’s role in the world? Will his particular brand of divisive politics carry him to re-election?

This talk will focus on the Trump presidency and the 2020 presidential election, including a look at the Democratic opposition, their search for a presidential candidate and their outlook for November. As usual, satirical cartoons and videos will provide comic relief from the high stakes of this election year.

Speaker: Dr. Markus Hünemörder, LMU München
