Fellow for the John W. Kluge Center announced

Our Bavarian American Academy is happy to announce the next fellow to the John W. Kluge Center at the Library of Congress. Dr. Peter Maurits from Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU) has impressed us with his vast knowledge in the field of American literary theory and will start his research fellowship in fall 2019. He is currently working on the emergence of African science fiction, among other topics, and will highly benefit from his stay, the jury believes.

During his fellowship, the library will provide a desk, facilitated access to the collections and databases, and access to the curators of the library. Dr. Maurits will be supported with all services offered to junior level Fellows in residence at the John W. Kluge Center of the Library of Congress and will receive 9,500 € for travel and accommodation costs. Organizational help for visa, housing etc. will also be provided.

The fellowship is granted by the Bavarian State Chancellery. The purpose of this fellowship is to send advanced graduate students from Bavarian universities to conduct independent research using the collections of the Library of Congress.

About the fellow:

Dr. Peter Maurits is a research fellow at the Department for English and American Studies at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg (FAU). He received his master’s degree in Literary Studies at the Universities of Utrecht and Bern and completed his doctorate in Comparative Literature and Roman Languages summa cum laude at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München. His work on African literature and intercultural comparison strongly focuses on the ways cultural forms move, interact, adapt, and take shape in the triangle Africa-Europe-USA, especially in the 20th and 21st century. Dr. Maurits teaches African, British, and postcolonial literature and theory, as well as literary, cultural, and critical theory on the B.A. and M.A. level.
