Call for Applications: “The Futures of American Studies Institute” 2020 at Dartmouth

If you are a Postdoc or PhD-Student, this is your chance again to participate in the “The Futures of American Studies Institute” at Dartmouth College (Director: Professor Donald E. Pease). 


The international and interdisciplinary programme which is taking place from Monday June 22 - Sunday June 28, 2020, was designed to provide a shared space of critical inquiry that brings the participants' work-in-progress to the attention of a network of influential scholars.


The Institute is divided into plenary sessions that feature talks from Institute faculty, research seminars in which all participants present and discuss their own work-in-progress, and participant-organized sessions.


This years plenary sessions include:

  •     "Sylvia Wynter and the Black Radical Tradition"
  •     "Audiopolitics"
  •     "Alter-Cartographies of the Visual"
  •     "Queer Futurities"
  •     "Critical Digital Studies"
  •     "Carceral Politics at the Borders"
  •     "Indigenous Resurgences: Dismantling the Settler Colonialist Logics of Dispossession"
  •     "Primitive Accumulation / Social Reproduction"
  •     "Afro-futurisms" 


For travel and accommodation the BAA awards a scholarship of €1150 ($695 tuition and €500 travel grant).  


Applications should include a brief description of the project (not more than one page), a CV, a writing sample (10–15 pages), and one letter of recommendation.
