Call for Applications: BAA-Fellowship at Mellon School of Theater and Performance

Our Bavarian American Academy funds a PhD-student or a Postdoc to participate in the Mellon School of Theater and Performance Research Summer 2019: “Migrations” at Harvard University (Chair: Professor Martin Puchner).

The program offers faculty and advanced graduate students who study theater and performance the opportunity to learn from leading scholars in the field in an intensive two-week summer seminar. Located on the picturesque campus of Harvard University, the Mellon Summer School also offers participants the unparalleled resources of the Harvard libraries. Due to a generous grant from the Mellon Foundation, tuition is free for all accepted participants.

The Mellon School of Theater and Performance Research was founded at Harvard University in 2010 to create a forum in which scholars in and around theater studies can gather to exchange their ideas and discuss their research. In 2019, the Mellon School of Theater and Performance Research will focus on migration. Combining perspectives from the social sciences and the arts, it will explore migration as a human condition, as a historically specific phenomenon, and as an urgent crisis. Dancers, theater makers, and performance artists have responded to the recent increase in migration in different ways. At the same time, performance artists have also drawn on the migratory history of their own profession, learning from the experiences of traveling troupes and vagrant performers, among others. This summer session will aim to detail what role the performing arts can play in a future in which migration will likely increase.

For travel and accommodation the BAA awards a scholarship of €1500
