“Building Bridges” Workshop for International Office Employees

On September 20th, the Amerikahaus hosted a one day workshop for employees of international offices at German universities. Over the course of the day, various speakers spoke on the topic of exchange options and university partnerships with the US.

The event opened with a welcome from the US Consulate. A representative of the German Fulbright Commission started us off the presentations with a summary of the trends they’ve noticed in German-American university exchange. Representing the perspective of American universities, Su Frost of the College of Charleston, shared some examples of creative programming outside of one to one exchanges. She also gave some insight into what American students are looking for in a study abroad program and how German universities can attract more American students to their universities. Finally, the DAAD outlined how they can help fund internationalization projects at the university level. At the end of the afternoon, all three speakers were available for questions in a panel discussion.

In total, 24 international educators from universities across Germany took part in the workshop. We look forward to inviting them and other international office employees to the Amerikahaus for future workshops.
