NATO Project Award Ceremony

NATO Project - Student Competition

On April 4, 1949, the NATO treaty was signed. It was a decisive moment in the post-World War II era, and a defining feature of the geopolitical security architecture during the Cold War period and beyond. 70 years after its establishment, the Amerikahaus and the US General Consulate Munich introduced a large-scale competition on the history and future of NATO for students in Bavarian Gymnasien, Berufs- and Fachoberschulen.

The students are asked to research the history, present, and future of NATO and develop a creative project that discusses the current significance of NATO in the transatlantic community and its geopolitical context.

Project NATO Award Ceremony 2019

Together with a supervising teacher, the student groups came up with incredibly creative and impressive ideas, from mock TV shows, to short theater productions or audio dramas. The projects were reviewed by a high-ranking jury. They were judged on the quality of the depiction of historical and political contexts, on innovative creativity and the quality of its realization. Each year we received a number of amazing projects that would have deserved a prize.

Unfortunately, only the winners of the 2019 competition were able to enjoy the main prize – a trip to Brussels with an exclusive visit to the NATO headquarters. Due to Covid-19 related restrictions we were forced to award the winners with an exciting "substitute prize."

In the video below, you can watch the announcement of the winning team oft he year 2020.
