Odd Arne Westad: U.S.-China Relations in Light of the War in Ukraine

Monday, 12 December 2022, 7 p.m. CET

The Russian aggression against Ukraine began at a time when global tension was already running high.

What will the effects of the war be on relations between the United States and China, a relationship deemed by many to be key to future peace and stability? Will the Chinese leadership continue its de facto backing of Russia?  And will Russia’s leaders accept a subservient relationship to China as a price they have to pay for the war?

In this talk, Professor Westad will discuss these issues in light of lessons from history.
