Sing Sistah Sing! Charity Concert with Andrea Baker
Concert / Venue: Hochschule für Musik und Theater, Arcisstr. 12, 80333 München / Free admission, donations welcome
Internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Andrea Baker (Sydney, Beijing, Wiesbaden i.a.) and her piano accompaniment, Albert Horne, present their celebrated program "Sing, Sistah, Sing!" in Munich. The evening is an hommage to the distinctive sound and vast range of African-American music and its breathtaking and touching history.
Songs of iconic singers like Leontyne Price, Marian Anderson, Donna Summer, Nina Simone, and the great Billie Holiday make up the night's program. "Sing, Sistah, Sing!" also reflects the fight of these wonderful women for equality and artistic freedom, on stage as well as in real life. The singers expressed their desires through Jazz, Blues and opera - but the core of "Sing, Sistah, Sing!" is a reference to the roots of these singers, which can be found in the singing of plantation workers.
In "Sing, Sistah, Sing!", Andrea Baker also tells her own moving story and pays joyous tribute to her forerunners who courageously paved her way. A colorful, touching, and celebratory evening - join the celebration!
